Discover GALILEO: Georgia’s Virtual Library
GALILEO (which stands for GeorgiA LIbrary LEarning Online) is a "virtual library" that provides all Georgia students and residents with access to high-quality, professional resources that aren't available through a standard Google search.
Think of it as a gateway to thousands of credible sources that help students with homework, research papers, and curiosity-driven learning.
What’s inside GALILEO?
Instead of random websites, GALILEO offers a curated collection which includes:
-
Encyclopedia Britannica: Reliable articles with versions specifically for elementary, middle, and high school levels.
-
Scholarly Journals & Magazines: Full-text articles from National Geographic, TIME for Kids, and thousands of academic journals.
-
eBooks: A massive digital library covering everything from history and science to popular fiction.
-
The Digital Library of Georgia: Primary sources, historic photos, and newspapers specifically about our state’s history.
-
Test Prep & Skills: Resources like LearningExpress to help students practice for standardized tests and build math or reading skills.
Why use it instead of Google?
While Google is great for quick facts, it often leads to ads or unreliable information. GALILEO resources are:
-
Verified: Every article and book is written by experts and vetted by librarians.
-
Ad-Free: A safe, distraction-free environment for students.
-
Cited for You: Most resources include a "Cite" button that automatically creates a bibliography entry (MLA, APA, etc.) for the student.
How do we log in?
Students can access GALILEO for free from school or home.
-
At School: Students can log in automatically through their ClassLink landing page.
-
At Home: You may need a password, which changes periodically. Please contact our school media specialist or your local public library to get the current password.
